Day 14: Restless Sunday and the Five-Dollar Thrill

Waking up on a Sunday morning was never easy, especially when there were no planned activities. Time seemed to pass innocently like a child learning the alphabet of another language.

The dorm was quiet, but the tenants were restless.

It was already late in the afternoon when Cha, Jordan and myself started to move about the city. Our first trip was the Bank of Guam. Nah, we didn’t fly to Guam, we just took a stroll within the city and checked if they have money in the bank.

Out of the 34, 000 people on Pohnpei, we met this guy who was kind enough to pose with us in front of the bank.

It was such a hot day 31oC so we decided to drop by Palm Terrace and had some Krunch Bars.

Jordan’s ice cream fell and melted on the table.
Mine fell in my mouth then to my stomach.

The ice cream didn’t cool us off, so we went to the Ocean View Hotel and chilled by the water’s edge and savored it’s refreshing breeze. (I should remind myself to make a full post about that hotel)

Cha and Jordan made a quick stop at Ace Commercial and bought some ingredients for dinner. We wanted to help out Kit prepare the food for the evening.

I tried to figure out if it was just I or was that Sunday afternoon in the kitchen just busy. While we were cutting potatoes and Bell peppers, people started to flock the kitchen and started making their own meals. I guess when worker bees smell work in the air, they could not help themselves from not taking part of the action.

“Hmm… now where to go?”

It was getting dark and our feet were still restless. I borrowed a car and loaded five dollars worth of gasoline. Cha, Jordan, and I were out in the night once again. Drove around the city with our Five Dollar Thrill and found ourselves at the Bank of FSM.

… and at the oval.

Oval

The moon shone its best through the fertile night clouds. The sight was both haunting and alluring. I could not help but reminisce about the “Tale of the Man who Loved the Moon.”
