Day Zero: Leaving Manila

It was the 17th of January when I left the country. It was my godfather and his wife who brought me to the airport with my parents.

We were running late because I just got home around five in the afternoon and I still had to complete packing my stuff. Yeah, my luggage were still unfinished, thanks to the after badminton party at Obando, Bulacan.

My parents helped me pack my stuff and it was Michael’s weighing scale that made sure that I did not exceed the 25 kg per piece of luggage. At around 7 o’clock in the evening, we left Malabon City.

We reached the airport around 8:30 p.m. then I bid goodbye to my godfather, my aunt, then I gave my dad and my mom a hug before I carried all my luggage to the entrance of the airport. I couldn’t even utter the words I love you to them because I knew if I did, I would have to reach out for my handkerchief to wipe off any moist in my eyes.

Getting inside the airport was easy enough, but there was a long queue the Continental Airlines lane. I quickly called up Jordan, the nurse who was also employed by Genesis, did this just come up? Oh well, this is the name of the company that hired me as a doctor on Pohnpei.

Genesis Hospital and Pharmacy

That’s right, I think I should start referring to it as GHP for now unless I needed to refer to it in a different way. So, it was Jordan and I who were travel companions that time.

I received several phone calls at the waiting area of NAIA terminal 1. One from Jerome, my best friend in high school, and one from Alvin, my best friend during the residency training. Then I decided to call my mom who was already asleep by the time she received my phone call.

The minutes passed so quickly and the next thing I knew, Jordan and I were already seated in the plane.
