Day 35: Winner of a Free Meal

A bet is as good as the pact made for it.

Sunday once again and everyone woke up late for breakfast, almost, but not me. I wanted to spend the day, maybe cleaning my room or having a work out, but I was stuck in the middle. I went to the kitchen and reserved our breakfast, meaning Jane, Jordan, and our new nurse Christine.

I guess everyone wasn’t that eager to chow down the usual breakfast so I suggested we all go to the PCR and have a buffet there. Anyway, it was already ten in the morning.

We rushed the PCR, but found out that there wasn’t any lunch buffet served yet. You remember the kind of food served there right? If you can’t, please watch the video below.

Looking for some form of distraction, we found ourselves ready for a table tennis match. Jordan and I made a bet that whoever loses would pay lunch. So, we practiced first before the actual match. Jane and Christine went for a walk then came back to take pictures of us.

The Match

After two sets and losing around 300 calories each, Jordan was prepared to pay for lunch.

Victory was sweet, but not as satisfying as the free buffet meal that afternoon. Every sweat was replaced with the delicious taste of food rotating in that familiar set up of impatiently anticipating for the food to finally just be an arms length away.

The Free Meal

Plate after plate, the tuna sashimi, breaded chicken, California maki, spring rolls, vegetable tempura, fried fish, and rice with Indian sauce kept coming and we were satiated, well, almost and we almost couldn’t walk back to the car.

It wasn’t just the food that was satisfying, before we went home, we hung out the waterfront and imagined the surf and the sea in our faces as the salty air wiped the blanket of exhaustion from our faces.
